A lip tie (labial frenulum) is a shortened, thickened, tight band of tissue that may occur under the upper &/or lower lip, is present at birth (congenital), and may impact an infant’s ability to breast &/or bottle feed due to latching issues.

If restrictive, this tissue will blanch (whiten) when the lip is lifted up (upper lip) or down (lower lip).

During oral motor/oral swallowing & speech evaluations, we will examine the structure and determine if there are functional impacts to speech &/or oral swallowing skills.
